Caramel Apple Crescents:

My sister-in-law Marianne, made this delicious dessert two summers ago when we were visiting them in Utah. (It is a recipe adapted from the Pioneer Woman Apple Dumplings.) Marianne gave me the recipe for these by sending me to her friends' awesome cooking website: ourrecipeclub.blogspot.com. Several of Marianne's friends contribute to this recipe club and I've found great ideas on there, too. This recipe is so good and not difficult because it uses crescent rolls for the crust. Also, you'd never guess it has Mountain Dew in it, but it is great because when it cooks, it caramelizes the apple crescents and they are amazing served hot with vanilla ice cream. Try it today!

Caramel Apple Crescents:
2 Granny Smith apples
2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup Mountain Dew
cinnamon

Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes. Serve with ice cream or fresh whipped cream. Make sure to spoon some of the "special sauce" from the pan over the top.
